Puppy Vaccination - Day 61

It was Holi in India two days back which is one of the major festivals here, and hence, I was too occupied to write a post for Leo.

Leo got his second shot of vaccination yesterday which was a 9 in 1. His next vaccination is due on 15th March. Leo did not get any fever after both of his vaccinations received till date. He is growing up too fast and people are noticing it. His is becoming even more active day by day. Here is a pic of Leo clicked today. He loves to rest his head on my feet or leg.

My looks are deceiving, I ain't that innocent!

The vet also measured Leo's weight yesterday and he is now 5.5 kgs. We has gained around a kilogram in the last 4-5 days.

My boy doesn't like to be on leash and this is what he does when he sees it!! Though he sits quietly when the leash has been put on. Below pics were clicked at Leo's Day 56.

We had started "Royal Canin Junior Rottweiler" for Leo 3-4 days back. Incidentally, Leo is not liking it when soaked, he likes to have it dry. We consulted the vet for the same and he said it was okay to feed them without soaking if Leo likes it that way.

8 Week Old Rottweiler Puppy - Day 56

Leo turns 8 weeks today. He is exactly 56 days old today and we are excited about the new phase of his growth. The initial two months of a puppy's life are very delicate and crucial and we need to take special care if we get them before they turn 8 weeks old.

I am glad about the way Leo has grown over the last two weeks. He has shown significant difference in his physical as well as behavioral aspects. Here is a pic of Leo which shows how he looked at 6 weeks and how he looks now.

Leo understands and follows the commands "Come", "No", "Sit", "Stay", "Off", "Eat" and "Hand Shake" which is pretty good for his age. He is very active throughout the day and sleeps well throughout the night. We do take him out of his crate a couple of times in the night so that he can release himself.

We had been feeding "Royal Canin Puppy Food" to Leo and have started the "Royal Canin Junior Rottweiler Food" from today. We are not following the Feeding Guidelines mentioned at the back of the packaging as he got a pot belly earlier when being fed 4 times a day with bigger meals. The packaging says we need to feed him 308 grams a day, divided in three meals. We are feeding him the same quantity but divided in five meals a day. We plan to decrease the number of meals gradually. Every puppy is different from the other and hence we need to cater to the needs specifically.

Leo is now 16 inches long and 15 inches tall. He weighs 4.5 kilograms approximately. He seems to be on the lower side as far as the weight is concerned and that is because he suffered from diarrhea last week. We are hopeful he will grow fine in the coming days. Leo has become the apple of our eyes :) and has charmed his way into our hearts!!

Before I end the post of today, here is a pic of Leo - The Lion!!  :D

Now, that's a walk full of attitude

Puppy Doing A Handshake : Day 55

Leo never fails to surprise us with his intelligence and learning capacity. He is learning new things each day. We taught him "hand/paw shake" yesterday. My son practices the same with him today. Watch this video to see how nicely Leo obeys my 7 year old son and does a handshake.

But this little thing is not just cute. He has turned into a monster these days, biting us all throughout the day. He is teething and needs something to chew on all the time. We have got lots of toys for him and he has grown very fond of those. But he is still not sparing our feet, hands, clothes and furniture (which he can get hold of).

When this lil boy is generous, he does come and sit at our feet calmly and generally sleeps resting his head on my feet. So I know that his biting habit is just a phase and we will soon overcome it. Raising a puppy needs a lot of patience, its a responsible task full of fun.

Working with Rottweiler - Day 54

Leo doesn't like to be left alone even for a single minute, we are spoiling him, I guess :) ! And because I generally work from home, he likes to help me in my work too. This is how he shares the work.

When are you going to finish off your work?

I am tired of waiting now!

Okay, so you have better things to do other than playing with me? I have too!

Ouch! It hurts!

Amusing Rottweiler Puppy - Day 53

Our Rott is an amusing member of our family. He is a full time entertainment for us. Watching his little activities, jumping, playing, running makes our day.

Leo has a special interests in slippers. Watch this video to see how excited he gets when he sees a slipper :) and I bet you can not stop yourself from laughing after watching this video

Isn't it fun to see his little funny things? This happens several times a day and we really need to hide our slippers to avoid Leo getting hold of them.

And after these tiring activities our baby sleeps like a log

My little baby never likes to sleep in his crate and this is how he sleeps at any place where rest of the family is present.

Activities of A Rottweiler Puppy - Day 50

Leo has become a stress buster for us. He is making us laugh with his activities every now and then. I was never a pet lover but Leo has changed me completely and now I think everyone should have a dog!

My days now start with treating him with a biscuit. As soon as my alarm rings in the morning, Leo runs out of his crate and starts following me and licking my feet continuously. He goes back to his crate only when he gets a biscuit and as soon as he finishes it, he is back :). He will keep sitting in my kitchen while I will be preparing the breakfast for my son and soak his food. He takes his breakfast around 6:30 AM and then sleeps for an hour.

We have introduced rice and lentils too to Leo. We have started giving little quantity so that his stomach adjusts to it easily. He has not shown any allergies/reactions to anything yet and am sure he is a rough tough boy.

Here are a few pics of today.

Aww, my cute puppy!

He likes to pose, doesn't he?

A rott couldn't be cuter!

He wants to play now

Leo gets really playful several times a days and starts running behind us. As soon as we start giving him attention, he will lie on his back and start moving his legs. He really enjoys it when we caress his stomach and wants us to do it again and again. He also does a lot of biting when he wants to play as that's the only way he thinks he can play. We hand him over his toys which he grabs and runs funnily all around the house. Its a treat to watch him doing it. Below is a video where he is pulling my clothes to play with me :

We have also started leash training for Leo. I ask my son to walk him for few minutes everyday on leash which both of them enjoy. We do this indoors as we have been advised by the vet to not to take him outdoors until his major vaccinations are done. He is prone to infections until then and we need to be careful. Raising Leo has become a joyful job for all of us and we are truly enjoying it!

Cute Rottweiler Puppy - Day 49

Leo turned 49 days! He has been with us for 9 days now and feels so much like a family! We saw so many changes in him in the last 9 days. Not only has he doubled in his size, his behavioral activities have also changed. He has started sleeping lesser , now around 15 hours a day. He is more playful and even bites now :) . He is trying to bite and chew each and everything he can get hold of including our hands and feet!! Its tough to stop him from doing it. Each time he tries to bite us or a furniture, we hand him his toys and then next 10 minutes he remains busy with them. He enjoys our company and can't afford to stop seeing us even for a minute. You disappear from his sight and he starts getting anxious! That's why it is said that Rottweilers are family dogs and they do a lot of damage due to separation anxiety!

He is either sleeping, or chewing up things (playing) or licking our feet throughout the day. He has got so accustomed to his routine that he will reach the exact place at his food time, treat time, sleep time etc. When I came back from office yesterday (I generally work from home, so had gone for the first time since Leo had arrived), it came running to me as soon as I entered the door and started licking my feet. I had to actually stop and keep standing still for a couple of minutes to let him shower his love. And then he kept following me until I asked him to SIT. He is such a loving boy.

Here are his pictures of Day 49! You might notice that his belly has reduced and am hopeful he will look quite fit in a couple of days!

Love his almond eyes

It doesn't looks like a 7 week old
