Funny Sleeping Postures of A Rottweiler Puppy

Its amusing to watch Leo sleeping peacefully like a log. Though he seems to be sleeping like a log, he is the first one to reach the door as soon as the door bell rings. The Rottweiler instincts are growing in him :) . I captured some of his pictures over the last 25 days and here they are :

8 Week Old Rottweiler Puppy - Day 56

Leo turns 8 weeks today. He is exactly 56 days old today and we are excited about the new phase of his growth. The initial two months of a puppy's life are very delicate and crucial and we need to take special care if we get them before they turn 8 weeks old.

I am glad about the way Leo has grown over the last two weeks. He has shown significant difference in his physical as well as behavioral aspects. Here is a pic of Leo which shows how he looked at 6 weeks and how he looks now.

Leo understands and follows the commands "Come", "No", "Sit", "Stay", "Off", "Eat" and "Hand Shake" which is pretty good for his age. He is very active throughout the day and sleeps well throughout the night. We do take him out of his crate a couple of times in the night so that he can release himself.

We had been feeding "Royal Canin Puppy Food" to Leo and have started the "Royal Canin Junior Rottweiler Food" from today. We are not following the Feeding Guidelines mentioned at the back of the packaging as he got a pot belly earlier when being fed 4 times a day with bigger meals. The packaging says we need to feed him 308 grams a day, divided in three meals. We are feeding him the same quantity but divided in five meals a day. We plan to decrease the number of meals gradually. Every puppy is different from the other and hence we need to cater to the needs specifically.

Leo is now 16 inches long and 15 inches tall. He weighs 4.5 kilograms approximately. He seems to be on the lower side as far as the weight is concerned and that is because he suffered from diarrhea last week. We are hopeful he will grow fine in the coming days. Leo has become the apple of our eyes :) and has charmed his way into our hearts!!

Before I end the post of today, here is a pic of Leo - The Lion!!  :D

Now, that's a walk full of attitude

Puppy Doing A Handshake : Day 55

Leo never fails to surprise us with his intelligence and learning capacity. He is learning new things each day. We taught him "hand/paw shake" yesterday. My son practices the same with him today. Watch this video to see how nicely Leo obeys my 7 year old son and does a handshake.

But this little thing is not just cute. He has turned into a monster these days, biting us all throughout the day. He is teething and needs something to chew on all the time. We have got lots of toys for him and he has grown very fond of those. But he is still not sparing our feet, hands, clothes and furniture (which he can get hold of).

When this lil boy is generous, he does come and sit at our feet calmly and generally sleeps resting his head on my feet. So I know that his biting habit is just a phase and we will soon overcome it. Raising a puppy needs a lot of patience, its a responsible task full of fun.

Working with Rottweiler - Day 54

Leo doesn't like to be left alone even for a single minute, we are spoiling him, I guess :) ! And because I generally work from home, he likes to help me in my work too. This is how he shares the work.

When are you going to finish off your work?

I am tired of waiting now!

Okay, so you have better things to do other than playing with me? I have too!

Ouch! It hurts!

Welcoming our Rott!

On 16th Feb 2015, we welcomed our rottweiler to our home. We were too excited and our son missed his school :). We had been thinking of a name for him ever since we planned to get a Rott and had agreed upon "Leo"! He was 40 days old, the day he arrived to our place.

I know we shouldn't be getting a puppy before 8 weeks of age but the breeder was selling off all his puppies so we had to get it. These are some of his pics of his first day at our house.

It played, jumped and ran around for an hour before he slept and we were too happy to see him adjusting well to the new environment. So from here, began a new phase of our lives where we lost our freedom but were cherishing it!
