Tick Collar - Bayer Kiltix Collar Review

I am back with a review post today after a long time. This time I am going to review a vital product - tick collar.

All the pet owners wonder about how we can get rid of ticks and keep looking for solutions.Ticks not only make our pets upset, they can also cause the dangerous tick fever. They are mostly found on the softer areas of the body, like ears, paws and belly.

I used to find a tick or two on Leo almost every other day and was looking for a solution. I thought of testing Bayer Kiltix Collar to see how effective it was. So I bought this collar of "Large" size in INR 630. Smaller sizes cost lesser.

The collar expires after five years of its manufacturing but its effective for around six months once it is opened from the packaging.

The collar I got was in cream color and a white powder coating stuck to my fingers when I touched it. The description on the packing says that it should be kept out of reach of children and one should wash the hands once handled the collar.

This is how the collar looks.

And this is how Leo looks with the collar :)

Leo has been wearing this collar for the last 3-4 months and I haven't found a single tick since then. Am so glad about it. I had been monitoring him and checking for the ticks regularly whenever he came back from a walk, when he started wearing the collar. Gradually, the frequency has reduced as I believe the collar is working. I now check his body twice or thrice a week for ticks.

Am relieved that I can save my dog from ticks using this collar. I hope more people can try this after reading this post and be happy about it!!

Cheers~~

11 Months Old Rottweiler Puppy

Hi All,

I know it's been a while and I was kind of lost in other things so couldn't give any update on the well being of Leo.

While I wrote the heading of today's post "11 Months Old Rottweiler PUPPY", I couldn't help myself from smiling. I said "puppy" for a dog [actually puppy] who weighs 40 Kgs, is 22-23 inches tall and looks strong and big enough to scare the shit out of anyone. Lol !! But yes, he is still a PUPPY!!

Let's see how this puppy looks now, after a gap of 2 good months!!

Mum, can I also join in for the studies?

Noone's watching, lemme finish off this piece of paper fast!!

My Standard Pleading Pose

Doesn't he steal your heart? He looks so cute and adorable. I ask myself everyday, "Rottweilers are dangerous, really?". I think only the Rottweiler owners should be allowed to talk about this and am sure they all would say "you must be kidding"!!!

Well, now let's talk about how Leo has been doing recently.
He is getting mature day by day but still runs behind balls so we need to be really careful while taking him for a walk. He can get crazy at the mere sight of a ball or a balloon and it gets tough to hold him. Of course he is probably more powerful than us now at the age of 11 months !!!!

Apart from this, he is an obedient loving dog. He still likes to sit under my study table while I work on my laptop and still obeys the commands as religiously as he did earlier.

I have recently taught him how to crawl and he enjoys his training sessions as much as I do.  Its fun to watch him doing all the commands at one go without defaulting. As of now he knows come, sit, down, play dead, role, no, fetch, stay, off, eat, heel, touch, jump, hand[shake] and crawl.

With time, Leo has understood what people do when they have to go out :). I mean dressing up and doing something while standing in front of the dressing table. So now, when ever he watches us doing those activities, he gets restless [poor dog :( ]. He understands that we are going out and might not take him, so he starts following me like my shadow. And as soon as the footwear is on, you got to see the look on his face. And then comes the happy ending, ask him to get his leash and tell him "Leo, let's go" and you see his tail wagging happily with excitement. The moment makes the day!! How can anyone be stressed when they have a dog at home?!! :D :D

Enough for this post, though I have a lot more to share but that would be coming in the next post pretty soon. Till then, take care of your furry friends and enjoy!!

Choostix Dog Treat Review

My last post was about Choostix biskies, and today I am going to review Choostix chews/munchies in lamb, chicken and beef flavor.

Choostix chews are considered as dog treats and come in several flavors but I will be sharing the feedback for three of them: Lamb, Chicken and Beef. Another flavor of this is Natural which is supposed to contain vegetables.

What it claims :
  • Choostix treats satisfy the natural urge to chew whilst reducing tartar and promoting healthy teeth and gums
  • They are also the perfect treat at the time of teething. Choostix are made from high quality products and are ideal for all breeds of dogs

 LAMB FLAVOR:

BEEF FLAVOR:

All of these chews come in a pack of 450 grams and cost INR 150. Leo loves them like anything and am sure every dog is going to like it. So go ahead and buy them for your furry friends.

Choostix Biskies Chicken Flavor Review

Leo is very fond of biscuits and munchies and so we keep getting them for him. Though one should be monitoring the intake of these things as they might make your pet grow over weight without providing them the required nutrition. We use biscuits only as a treat while training him or when he does a good job. :)

So recently I ordered Choostix Biskies in Chicken Flavor. It comes in a transparent jar and is convenient to use and store. This 1 kg jar costs INR 225.

These biscuits are bone shaped and light brown in color. They are not very hard like the biscuits of few other brands and can be easily broken into smaller pieces, if required.

Leo loves these biscuits, he loves all the biscuits for that matter :) . Just show him a biscuit and he will do what ever you will ask him to. I keep buying them again and again but restrict the consumption to around 2-3 biscuits a day on an average.

Special Dog Excellence Puppy And Junior Dog Food Review

Hope everyone is doing great with their pets. Today I am going to review "Special Dog Excellence Puppy And Junior Dog Food".

Puppy & Junior is a complete food studied for the daily diet of puppies up to 12 months old. The recipe contains all the nutritional elements for healthy and balanced growth. The linseed sustains cardiac activity and the citrus fruits rich in Vitamin C are a valid aid for the immune system.

I had got the 1.5 kgs bag of this food and its MRP is INR 705. It comes in a white colored bag as shown below.

Ingredients :

Chicken meal (min. 24%), rice (min. 18%), maize, animal fat,
dehydrated animal protein, dehydrated fish, wheat, citrus
fruit (1%), linseed (0.3%), dried whole egg (0.12%), brewers
dried yeast (0.12%), hydrolysed chicken liver, M.O.S. - mannanoligosaccharides
(0.04%), F.O.S. – fructo- oligosaccharides
(0.02%), Soya Lecithins: 50 mg/Kg.

Analytical Constituents:

crude protein :30%
crude oils and fats : 17%
crude ash : 6.5%
crude fibre : 2.5%
Calcium : 1.40%
Phosphorus : 1%

Kibbles of this dog food are dark brown in color and small is size. There is no good or bad smell in the product.

This food is said to contain rice and chicken meat rich in highly digestible proteins, Linseed which helps support cardiac activity and citrus fruits which help the immune system, strengthening the body’s defenses.

Use Instructions:

Puppies from 20 days up to 12 months of age : soften the product with warm milk or water for a few minutes before administration. The ratios should be divided into 3-4 daily meals and can be changed according to the specific needs of each animal.

Pregnant and nursing females: increase the usual daily ratio at the beginning by 10% then, for the last weeks, by 25% and maintain the increase throughout the nursing period.

Leo's Experience :

Leo did not like this dog food at all. Each time I tried to feed him this, he just turned his face away. I also tried mixing chicken with this but he simply didn't want to eat it. I guess the taste of this is really bad and that's the reason Leo is not willing to eat this even when mixed with chicken.

Our Suggestion :

Since a lot of other good dog foods are available in market in the same price range, I would suggest to skip this and buy something else.

Chicken, liver, dietary fiber, soy oil, gravy, gelling agents, flavor, coloring agents, minerals and vitamins

Nutritional analysis

Crude protien (min) 8%, crude fat (min) 5 %, crude fiber (max) 3 %, moisture (max) 84 %

This pack contains some chunks in gravy. The cubical chunks come in two different colors as shown in the images below. The pack needs to be consumed the same day once opened.

I don't trust Pedigree for fulfilling nutritional requirements but I still buy this product again and again. And that's because, I use this only as a topping on Leo's regular food and he really likes it. Whenever Leo is not willing to eat, I add this to his food and he finishes the food with charm.

This product has only 8% protein and 84% is just moisture so not a good option for using as a complete meal but can certainly be used as a snack or a treat or as a topping.

Will I Buy it Again :

Yes, it is a good and pocket friendly option to add some taste to the regular food of your dog.
